Postcode emerged during 2012 as a photographic
project. Through the photographs of temporary homes (with or without human
presence) I tried to visibilize the situation of all those people who have made
the street their home, the chronic situation of
neglect, injustice and inequality our society pretend to avoid; and, by the
appropriation of pre-existent textual documents (taken from the mass medias),
to draw attention to the fallacies of the prevailing discourse. The combination
of documentary photography and texts compels us to think about the processes of
reality and fiction on which the welfare state is based.
Four years later, Postcode is still a work in
progress, although on this occasion texts have been replaced by drawings and
maps (of homes, buildings, places) that relate to the “origin”, that is, to the
fact that from the very beginning, from the very first thought of building a
residential area or the last development plan for urban regeneration, homeless
people are ignored, left aside and made invisible.
Postcode 4 is then both the origin and the
continuation of that very first image that tried to expose the dominant
discourse and challenge our beliefs about what reality is made of.
The result of the last series from this work in progress will be exhibited at the Outono
Fotográfico Photo Festival from 04/11 to 31/12. You can find relevant
